NHS dental charge bands

Band 1

Covers an examination, diagnosis and advice. If necessary, it also includes X-rays and planning for further treatment.

Band 2

Covers all treatment covered by Band 1, plus additional treatment, such as fillings, root canal treatment and removing teeth (extractions).

£70.70

Band 3

Covers all treatment covered by Bands 1 and 2, plus more complex procedures, such as crowns, dentures and bridges.

£306.80

Am I Exempt?

Income Support.
Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (income related not contribution).
Guarantee Pension Credit
You are entitled to, or named on, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate
You are named on a valid HC2 certificate
If you are pregnant or had a baby in the last 12 months.
Employment support allowance (income related not contribution).
You are named on a valid HC3 certificate, which limits the amount you have to pay

What we cannot do under the NHS banner

The NHS is an amazing service, and it does amazing work in dentistry but in general medicine and care as well. However, it is not an endless resource and as such it, and by extension we, are unable to provide treatments or cost reductions when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, or treatment wherein the procedures have not been prescribed/recommended by a dentist. We have a vast range of private dental care options available, please do not hesitate to call us.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I need more treatment?

If within two months of completing a course of treatment, you need more treatment from the same charge band or a lower one – such as another filling – you don’t have to pay anything extra.
However, after two months of completing a course of treatment, you will have to pay the NHS charge Band (listed above) for any dental treatment received.

What if I need Emergency or urgent treatment?

If you require urgent care, you will only need to pay one Band 1 charge. Most urgent treatments can be done in one appointment and can be booked through our emergency service. However, if more than one visit is required and you return to the same dentist to complete your urgent treatment, the Band 1 urgent charge is all that you should pay.

Once your urgent course of treatment is complete, you may be advised to make another appointment for a separate course of non-urgent treatment. In this case, the relevant Band charge will apply.

What happens if I miss my appointment?

The practice requires 24 hours notice to cancel an appointment if you miss your appointment the practice will not be able to re-book.

Who is entitled to free NHS dental treatment?

You do not have to pay for NHS dental treatment if, when your treatment starts, you are:

under 18
under 19 and in full-time education
pregnant or you’ve had a baby in the 12 months before treatment starts
staying in an NHS hospital and the hospital dentist carries out your treatment
an NHS hospital dental service outpatient (although you may have to pay for your dentures or bridges)

You can also get free NHS dental treatment if, when the treatment starts or when you’re asked to pay:

you’re included in an award of Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance, income-related Employment and Support Allowance or Pension Credit guarantee credit.
you’re named on, or entitled to, a valid NHS tax credit exemption certificate.
you’re named on a valid HC2 certificate
If you’re named on a valid HC3 certificate, you may not have to pay for all your NHS dental treatment. HC2 and HC3 certificates are issued under the NHS Low Income Scheme – see below

You will not be exempt from paying for NHS dental treatment because you receive one of the benefits below when paid on their own:

Proof of your entitlement

You’ll be asked to show your dentist written proof that you’re entitled to help with dental treatment costs. This will vary depending on your circumstances.
